Task 2.1 Research Into Existing Products: Video Games

Generating ideas for video games



Fall Out 4 Analysis 
From watching the trailer to the video game I found that it was based on survival as it had a post-apocalyptic vibe to it. This was shown through elements of technology (aircraft), the lightning bolts, the famine and fires. You could see that the wars were still going on as the dog walked through the different scenes.

At the beginning of the trailer it was shown to be quite old fashioned as it had distorted effect on the song "It's all over". This is easy listening music and allows the viewer to keep their attention locked on the trailer. Throughout the music changes to more ironic, loud music to quicken the pace and entice the audience into wanting to buy and play the game.

The editing had many elements including flashbacks, cross cutting, horizontal tracking and panning. This mixture of shot types allows each shot to be fresh instead of continuously using the same shots.

I would argue that the target audience for this particular game would be a male between the ages of around 16-20 who's subculture is classed as a 'gamer'. This is purely because it isn't really shown to be popular with females and it may not be as easy to understand for younger people.
